Serving the European Paper Converting Industry with the ServoPro Rotary Die Cutter

Apr 1, 2024

BW Papersystems has seen continuous and sustained growth as e-commerce boxes and demand for corrugated have steadily grown. With this growth came the need for significant upgrades to our manufacturing capabilities and facilities, not just in terms of service and support, but also reducing lead times for the supply of new equipment.

In the dynamic landscape of global corrugated and converting machine manufacturing, BW Papersystems stands at the forefront of innovation, efficiency, and sustainability. We are embracing a pivotal strategy focused on the importance of local field service technicians, locally-sourced manufactured parts, and communicating in local languages. This approach enhances operational efficiency and fosters a stronger connection between the BW Papersystems team and our partners in EMEA.

Our Hamburg, Germany location is a finishing center for excellence for BW Papersystems, and the central hub for our European manufacturing teams. Leveraging our strategic location and skilled workforce, Hamburg proudly manufactures cut-size sheeters and paper converting equipment. With the ability to respond swiftly to issues, local technicians who are deeply familiar with the intricacies of the BW Papersystems product lines can provide rapid solutions, minimize downtime, and ensure continuous productivity. Proximity enables a proactive approach, with technicians being able to identify and address potential concerns before they escalate into major disruptions.

Additionally, our Frankfurt location is available to support European customers with locally manufactured parts and a highly-trained service team ready to serve any repair or upgrade needs in the field.

The MiniPro FFG was the first finishing machine built in the Hamburg site back in 2022. This quick-set flexo folder gluer features real servo drive technology and the Corrusleeve® system to change printing plates in minutes. As with most of the BW Papersystems machines, the MiniPro offers optional single-pass inside printing.

For customers with a mid-size Flexo Folder Gluer, the wider, faster, updated Twin Box Slitter enables the production of smaller boxes. This remarkably accurate, proven, patented, self-sharpening, razor-slitting technology doubles the productivity of a mid-sized FFG.

The MaxPro Rotary Die Cutter is a robust, high performance, set-while-run machine that features a fast on/off cutting die system, and a dual belt drive system that requires less maintenance and easy access for fewer disruptions. Customizable print sections save time to keep the world’s fastest RDC sprinting at 225 kicks per minute.

With the addition of the ServoPro to Hamburg’s manufacturing offerings, BW Papersystems can serve the growing paper converting market with the industry’s leading Rotary Die Cutter. This easy-to-use servo-driven RDC features belted feeder and transfer sections and a quick-change die cut form to reduce total cost of ownership and ensure smooth operation. But should the ServoPro require servicing, local field service technicians are available quickly. Their expertise in troubleshooting, maintenance, and on-site problem resolution ensures that production lines continue to operate seamlessly. Super-robust components, additional torque, and stiffer journals allow the ServoPro RDC to run seamlessly with minimal downtime.

There are many benefits to implementing integrated corrugated and finishing lines in each plant. It saves on material and transportation costs, enables greater control over the sheet's quality, and enables plants to operate with less overhead with right-on-time manufacturing. These sophisticated production systems optimize manufacturing, improve efficiency, and reduce downtime, leading to overall improved productivity.

Local service teams offer more effective communication. The ease of collaboration contributes to efficient maintenance schedules and the implementation of preventive measures. BW Papersystems’ Customer Service Solutions (CSS) packages are available to serve and optimize machines in the field to ensure our clients are getting the most value from their equipment.

In a global manufacturing landscape, supply chain resilience is a critical consideration. By opting for local parts when possible, our supply chain is both stronger and more sustainable. Additionally, locally-sourced components reduce transportation distances and costs, supporting BW Papersystems’ sustainability goals.

BW Papersystems’ expansive location network enables quicker response times and facilitates collaboration in the customer’s language with flexible problem-solving to improve the efficiency of operations and enhances the overall user experience. Additionally, when technicians and operators can access information in their native language, it reduces the likelihood of errors and promotes a safer working environment.

Furthermore, adopting local languages in BW Papersystems’ communication strategies is a testament to our commitment to understanding and respecting the diverse cultures within Europe and contributing to a collaborative manufacturing ecosystem.

Later this year we will officially launch our fastest, most reliable, set-while-run Flexo Folder Gluer, which we believe will shake up the industry, and help our customer reach new levels of productivity. With years of research and development, and thoughtful and thorough engineering, we are excited to introduce this revolutionary machine to the market this summer.
