W 4200_Replacement of Obsolete CNI System

Machine Model for Improvement

Bielomatik Models CSW 50, 60, 100, 200

Description of Improvement

Critical components for the CNI machine control and drive system are obsolete and spare parts are no longer available. If any of these components should fail or break, extensive wrapper downtime and costly production loss would result. This upgrade converts the obsolete CNI machine control and drive system to the latest version of the Schneider drive and Siemens controls system. All components for the machine controls, such as the CPU and I/O cards and necessary peripherals (e.g. new HMI panels) are replaced with a Siemens system.

The known existing functions will be included in the new control incl. new I/O modules and counters. In order to reduce installation time, adapters will be used for the I/O modules instead of rewiring (where possible). The drives and motors will be replaced by a state of the art Schneider drive system. The required interface to the new drives is included. All new components including the new Siemens HMI panel will be installed in the existing switch cabinets.

If applicable, all necessary mechanical adaptor parts for the new motors are included in the scope. For the existing sensor technology, actuators will be further used and are therefore not part of this upgrade scope.

Benefits

  • Modern machine control, replacing obsolete CNI components, ensures spare parts’ availability
  • Optional remote service
  • Prerequisite for further upgrades
  • Investment typically pays for itself within days – compared to unplanned downtime
