TIP C 4011 Replacement of C1/C2 controls with PLC

TIP C 4011 Replacement of C1_C2 controls with PLC

Machine Model for Improvement

All E.C.H. Will cut-size sheeters with C1/C2 hardwired machine controls

Description of Improvement

The existing C1/C2 hardwired controls use out-dated, obsolete technology and it is not possible to change or modify functions with this system. Moreover, the number of specialists with the required knowledge of this type of technology for carrying out maintenance work and troubleshooting is limited.

This upgrade replaces the C1/C2 hardwired controls with a state-of-the-art PLC. The number of mechanical components, and hence the risk of wear, is reduced, lowering maintenance costs. This includes gear boxes, as gearing functions (sheet and reel count) are now controlled via the PLC.

All original functions are kept, or in some cases restored; overall performance is improved. The PLC allows for the addition of further machine functions and is a necessary prerequisite for future upgrades such as AMK servo drive/controls. The new PLC is a flexible, secure and dependable machine control system, greatly reducing the risk of costly unplanned downtime due to breakdown of old components, and speeding up troubleshooting in case of a malfunction. Both Siemens and Rockwell PLC conversions are available. Depending on exact machine type and condition of the electrical cabinets, the new PLC is either installed in the existing cabinet, or, optionally, in a new, preassembled electrical cabinet.

Benefits

  • Eliminates obsolete hardwired logics, reducing risk of malfunctions and downtimes
  • Dependable machine control system enabling faster troubleshooting
  • Provides necessary prerequisite for future upgrades
