Machine Model for Improvement

Folio-size sheeter types SHM 1400, 1450 and 1650

Description of Improvement

This upgrade is part of the Technical Improvement Program (TIP); it adds a motorized decurler system that consists of three decurler bars.

The diameters of the three decurler bars are determined by our experts in the our engineering department, taking into consideration machine and converted product details. Decurler bars are available in 12 mm (1/2 in), 20 mm (3/4 in), 30 mm (1-1/8 in), 40 mm (1-1/2 in), 50 mm (2 in) & 75 mm (1-3/4 in) sizes. The desired decurler can be selected by moving a pin and rotating the assembly using the supplied handle and then reinserting the pin to lock it.

The decurler assembly includes an idler roller, (diameter is based on material to be decurled) that the pivoting decurler rotates around. In addition, this improvement also includes an additional idler roller mounted upstream of the 3-bar decurler assembly to support the product and assist in decurling. A 1/3 HP helical worm gear motor is used for decurler assembly movement. A remotely mounted operator station houses the required components for decurler up and down movements. Over travel limit switches are included to shut motor power off in case maximum allowed mechanical limits are reached.

Benefits

  • Motorized system is superior over manual adjustments and improves machine operation
  • Quick change over for different bar diameters
  • Improves stack quality; reduces/eliminates product marking
